About Little Pink Project

MISSION AND HISTORY

In the past decade, efforts to address the rape culture in North America have gained traction in mainstream media. Little Pink Project is a plan to build confidence on how to protect oneself and spread awareness about sexual violence.

Little Pink Project was founded by Sophia Khan Basu. In May of 2015, Khan Basu decided to start a project to learn more about sexual violence and ways to tackle the largely ignored problem around the world. The project began in Toronto, Canada. Khan Basu engaged in a needs-based assessment at Heshima Kenya, a refugee shelter for women and girls in August 2015. Khan Basu then began working on a prototype rape prevention kit (The Little Pink Protection Box) which was completed in 2017 based on the Kenyan context. Since then, Little Pink Project has turned its focus towards addressing issues of sexual violence in the Canadian community. As sexual violence is largely within pre-existing relationships, LPP has shifted gears to try and work more on awareness and resources for prevention and support for any victims of sexual violence.

Little Pink Project now aims to be an educational resource for promoting awareness and empowerment for young women.
